Embark on Your Life as an Expat in Uganda

Uganda may be landlocked, but its landscape is something to behold. From the Rwenzori Mountains to the impressive Lake Victoria, its diverse and unique landscape is home to a number of endangered creatures, including gorillas, chimpanzees, and birds. Its national reserves and parks are protected and important natural regions of Africa. However, if you prefer the bright lights of the city, then the capital Kampala can most definitely offer that. The large lively city has totally reformed itself since the dark days of the civil war in the 1980s and is now a popular place for expats. Agriculture is the largest and most important sector of the Ugandan economy, making up over two-thirds of the workforce. Uganda's oil and gas industry is also on the rise, and is attracting foreigners from all over the world to the country. Lots of expats also move to Uganda as aid workers or to volunteer for NGOs, and most expats tend to settle in Kampala. Despite its recent history, Uganda is considered the happiest country in Africa. While some expats find it a little difficult to get used to the crazy streets of Kampala, many expats see it as a comfortable place in which to live, with modern shopping malls and organic foods available.

InterNations is the largest global network for expatriates, with communities in 420 cities around the world. Meet fellow global minds in your city of residence or get to know local expatriates before you're moving or traveling abroad and never feel like a stranger. I connected with several other expats here in Uganda. Some of them did not only become good friends, but also customers of my own business.
