Welcome to the City of Seven Hills

As the name suggests, Kampala was built on seven hills. As the city has expanded, more hills have become part of the landscape, but the original seven hills are still home to some of Kampala's most significant and sacred sites. Kampala sits in the Buganda region of the country and its parliament building is on Mengo Hill. The Lubaga, Kibuli, and Namiirembe Hills are home to some of the cities religious buildings and Kampala itself is home to one of the only seven Bahá'i centers of worship in the world. The city has a tropical rainforest climate with two wet seasons a year. The ethnically diverse population means that you can expect the food to be influenced by English, Arab, and Asian and can vary from simple fare to high-end restaurant food. If you're a fan of football, or sports in general, there are many opportunities for you and your family to get involved. As far as language is concerned, you may be pleased to know that, along with Swahili, English is spoken widely in Kampala, making it easier for you to communicate with locals. Get in touch with the expats who are already here — they mix freely with the locals in this safe, friendly city — named as the "happiest place in East Africa"!

InterNations is the largest global network for expatriates, with communities in 420 cities around the world. Meet fellow global minds in your city of residence or get to know local expatriates before you're moving or traveling abroad and never feel like a stranger. InterNations makes it easy for you to stay in touch with your expat friends, both online and offline, so you can grow your network of friends and contacts from all over the world. It can be scary to move to a new town, especially one so far from home. That's why we pride ourselves on bringing together expats to help ease the strain of relocating. We regularly hold events such as food and wine tasting parties, sports events, and family days out so that you can get to know the city and make your stay a happy and safe one for you and your family. There are a wide variety of groups so you're sure to find something you're interested in, from outdoor activities such as hiking, to book clubs to women-only groups. If you are self-employed, there are many networking and commerce groups which could not only make you some new friends but valuable business connections too. Our official community-wide events are organized by local Ambassadors who are ideally placed to put you in touch with fellow expats with similar interests and lifestyles. There really is no need to feel alone in your new home. There are expats from all over the world who live and work in Kampala and you're sure to find a lot of new friends to visit the sites of this lovely city with.

I connected with several other expats here in Uganda. Some of them did not only become good friends, but also customers of my own business.
