After a December that was filled to the brim with festivities, events, and fun activities, the beginning of a new year can seem a bit gloomy and uneventful. However, we are not going to let the January blues set in. Instead, our communities have come up with a lot of new events and activities to kick off 2019 the right way!

The Helsinki Walking & Exploring Group got the year off to a great start with a visit to the reindeer farm in Nuuksio. After a relaxed walk from Haltia, the group spent the day enjoying the snow and feeding the reindeer and ended the day with some glogg and gingerbread by the campfire. Thank you, Anita, for organizing this amazing activity!

The Beijing Community set out to host not one of the best, but the greatest party ever, right at the beginning of the year. Getting together at Equis, the Four Seasons’ exclusive event location, expats and global minds enjoyed some live music and toasted to a new year filled with immense happiness and luck. Thanks to Ambassadors Gabriela Filipovici and Pablo Rojas Vidal, the event was a great success, and everyone started the year off on the right foot.

InterNations Berlin started the year with an amazing event at the Grand. The venue is located in a former primary school and showcases the artfully shabby atmosphere that is typical of Germany’s capital. The large ballroom was exclusively reserved for InterNations for some socializing and networking, before everyone hit the dance floor. This event was a perfect start of the new year, thanks to Ambassador Barry Baruch, and makes us excited about what lies ahead.

“Welcome 2019 with Elegance” was the motto of the Melbourne Community. The venue of choice for this event was the Morocco Lounge, a space that comes with rich Arabesque tapestries, large ornate mirrors, and antique lanterns, as well as an incomparable atmosphere. Ambassadors Lara Yawno, Rosha Rad, and Kristy Simshauser organized this great event for their community to come together and kick off the year in style.
The first event of the Astana Community in 2019 marked a new beginning for the community after the hectic holidays. As everyone returned from their break (or had finally recovered from the stressful days in December), expats and global minds in Astana came together at TEPLO Resto Bar to mingle, catch up, and start the new year together. Thank you, Akdana Konyrova, Galina Zubkova, and Diego Amado for organizing this great event.

InterNations Perth took it to the Island Brewery for their very first event of the year. Perched on its own little island, the venue reserved its outdoor area Sunny Side Deck for expats and global minds to meet and mingle. Starting off 2019 in great spirits, Ambassadors Edward Brine and Anja Kolander organized an event that promises a bright new year, new friendships, and memories yet to be created.

This January, the Bochum Community got together at Das Zentral, an InterNations favorite with plenty of room. It was the perfect opportunity to reconnect with old friends, or make some new ones, and share the best Christmas holiday and New Year’s Eve stories with each other. Thanks to Ambassadors Ricardo Pérez de Tudela and Antje Schulke, the event was the perfect opportunity for having great conversations and welcoming the new year.

On Friday, 25 January 2019, some fantastic kick-off events will take place in Calgary, Vancouver, Québec, and Orange County, to name just a few. The Brasilia Community is also getting together to celebrate new beginnings and start the year off right.
InterNations Kuwait has prepared a special treat for this month’s event: the venue of their glamorous new year party, taking place on 25 January as well, was kept a secret until Tuesday, three days before the event. Whoever guessed the secret location had the chance to win a prize. On top of that, there will be an open buffet, a new year cake, and a DJ that will make you want to hit the dance floor.
No matter how you are starting off the new year, we hope that 2019 will bring you everything you hoped for, and that we will see you at one of our activities or official events!
