Get to Know Blantyre and What It Offers for Expats
Blantyre was established by Scottish missionaries following David Livingstone's lead and named after his birthplace, Blantyre in Scotland. Surrounded by three mountains, Ndirande, Mchiru, and Soche, it has many historical buildings, including St. Michael and All Angels Church, the original town hall and Malawi's first two-story building, Mandala House, built by the African Lakes Company in 1882 and now a treasure trove of historical information run by the Society of Malawi. There are several quality hotels, activities include bird watching, climbing, cultural experiences, cycling, and trekking and there are many shops catering for expats.
