I wish I'd found InterNations sooner: It would have made my first few month as an expat in London much less overwhelming.

What You Can Expect from Life in Birmingham

Birmingham, the second-largest city in the UK, is vibrant, welcoming, and culturally diverse. It is a hub for business, tourism, and conventions and is a great place in which to live and work. The city center has undergone considerable modernization in recent times. Its library and iconic Selfridges building are of particular note. And yet, it maintains its traditional feel by making good use of old buildings such as the Town Hall, now a popular theater venue. The city center also boasts excellent bars, restaurants, and nightlife. City center accommodation is relatively affordable, with a plethora of smart flats available near to the upmarket Mailbox and Waterfront area. Within a short drive from the city, you will find more rural areas like the Lickey Hills and the Worcestershire countryside. If you don't drive, you'll be pleased to hear that the transportation links in Birmingham are second to none. The railway network provides quick access to anywhere in the UK, buses operate throughout the city, and the international airport is close by should you want to head further afield.

InterNations is the largest global network for expatriates, with communities in 420 cities around the world. Meet fellow global minds in your city of residence or get to know local expatriates before you're moving or traveling abroad and never feel like a stranger. InterNations makes it easy for you to stay in touch with your expat friends, both online and offline, so you can grow your network of friends and contacts from all over the world. Whether they live in Prague or Singapore, InterNations allows you to be close to them even if they are miles away.
